Tutor Job Description

• Work with the same 2-3 K-8th students, 2-4 times per week for one hour each, after school
• Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments
• Reiterate key concepts in math or literacy, especially those learned in the classroom
• Teach skills to improve academic performance
• Motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance using effective goal-setting strategies
• Assess the progress of assigned students to ensure effective processes
• Plan creative lessons to engage and educate students
• Promote high standards for academic success and behavior and continually encourage students to meet them
• Be creative and flexible in order to personalize your learning approach for individual students
• Paid training
• A travel stipend will be provided for those who qualify
• Intern pay is $20 per hour. Everyone else is $25 per hour. 

Qualifications for Tutor

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions and deliver positive and constructive feedback
• Passion, excitement, and theoretical and practical understanding of the subject to be taught
• Patience and compassion for students as they develop skills and improve their performance
• Personal accountability and reliability with scheduled sessions
• Optional certification from accredited tutoring associations such as NTA or CRLA
